Loading Dock Equipment: Levelers, Seals, Shelters & Restraints

A loading dock is only as good as the equipment around the door. Partridge Door Company supplies and installs dock levelers, dock seals, dock shelters, dock bumpers and vehicle (truck) restraints for warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturers and retailers across central Mississippi. We pair them with the commercial overhead and rolling steel doors we install and service.

Dock equipment is customer-specific. We don’t rely on a single brand. We can source a wide range of dock systems on the market and match them to your building, your trailers and how you load.

Dock levelers

Trailer beds don’t always line up with your dock floor. A dock leveler bridges the gap and makes up the height difference between the dock and the trailer, so forklifts, pallet jacks and hand carts can move safely in and out. A properly sized and working leveler reduces product damage, equipment wear and the risk of accidents at the dock edge.

We install hydraulic and mechanical pit levelers, air-powered levelers and edge-of-dock levelers, sized to your trailer traffic, load weights and dock layout. → Dock Levelers

Dock seals and dock shelters

A dock seal compresses around the back of a parked trailer to close the gap between the trailer and the building. A dock shelter uses a frame and fabric curtains to wrap around the trailer, which suits docks that see a mix of trailer sizes. In Mississippi’s heat and humidity, either one matters:

  • It helps keep conditioned air inside the building.
  • It keeps rain, dust and insects out of the dock area.
  • It can make loading more comfortable and secure for your crew.

Dock bumpers

Every trailer that backs in hits the dock. Loading dock bumpers absorb that impact and protect the building, the leveler and the door frame. Worn-out bumpers are one of the most common causes of dock-face damage. We install molded, laminated and steel-faced bumpers.

Vehicle (truck) restraints

A trailer that creeps away from the dock, or a truck that pulls out too early, is a serious safety hazard. Vehicle restraints, also called truck restraints, hold the trailer in place at the dock during loading and unloading, with signal lights for the driver and the forklift operator. → Dock Bumpers & Vehicle Restraints

The doors that go with them

Dock equipment works together with the dock door itself. We sell and install commercial sectional, rolling steel and roll-up doors from Clopay, Cornell, DBCI and ASTA, with heavy-duty LiftMaster and Genie commercial operators, plus high-speed doors for busy interior openings. One company can handle the whole dock opening, from door to leveler to seal. → Commercial Garage Doors · Rolling Steel Doors

Loading dock equipment FAQ

What’s the difference between a dock seal and a dock shelter?

A dock seal is a compressible pad that presses against the back of the trailer to close the gap. A dock shelter is a frame with curtains that surrounds the trailer opening without pressing hard on the sides. Shelters are often used where trailer sizes vary.

What is the purpose of a dock leveler?

A dock leveler bridges the height difference and the gap between the dock floor and the trailer bed, so forklifts and pallet jacks can roll on and off safely.

What are the OSHA requirements for loading dock safety?

Among other rules, OSHA requires measures such as wheel chocks or other means to keep trailers from moving while forklifts drive on and off them or employees are on the dockboard (see 29 CFR 1910.178(k) and 1910.26). Vehicle restraints are a common way to meet that need. Check with OSHA and your insurer about your facility.

Can you repair a dock leveler you didn’t install?

Yes. We service and repair dock levelers and other dock equipment of all makes and models.

Can you supply the dock door and the leveler together?

Yes. We sell and install commercial dock doors and operators along with dock levelers, seals, shelters, bumpers and vehicle restraints.
