Dock Levelers: Installation & Repair

Trailer beds rarely sit at the exact height of a dock floor. A dock leveler bridges that gap so forklifts, pallet jacks and carts can move safely between the building and the trailer. Partridge Door Company supplies, installs and repairs dock levelers for warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturers and retailers across central Mississippi.

Types of dock levelers we install

  • Hydraulic dock levelers. Raised and lowered with a push button. They’re consistent and easy on operators, and a good choice for busy docks.
  • Mechanical dock levelers. Spring-operated and raised with a pull chain or release. They have fewer powered components and cost less up front, but need regular adjustment.
  • Air-powered dock levelers. An air bag raises the deck. Simple to operate, with few moving parts.
  • Edge-of-dock levelers. Mounted on the face of the dock, with no pit. They suit docks where trailer heights are consistent and the height difference is small.

Dock equipment is customer-specific. We don’t rely on a single brand. Instead, we can source a wide range of dock systems on the market and match them to your building, your trailers and how you load. We’ll look at your trailer traffic, load weights, forklift type and dock layout, then recommend a leveler size and capacity that fits. Levelers are installed together with the dock door, dock seals or shelters, and bumpers and vehicle restraints so the whole opening works as one system.

Dock leveler repair

We service and repair dock levelers of all makes and models. Typical problems:

  • Deck won’t rise or won’t stay up
  • Lip won’t extend or won’t fold back down
  • Hydraulic leaks, worn hoses or a failing pump
  • Broken or weak hold-down and lift springs on mechanical levelers
  • Cracked welds, worn hinges or damaged deck plates
  • Missing or worn toe guards and brush seals

Dock levelers can be included in our commercial preventive maintenance plan, a custom plan based on your facility’s size and number of doors and dock positions. Catching worn parts early keeps a leveler out of service for less time. → Maintenance Plans

Dock leveler FAQ

What is the purpose of a dock leveler?

A dock leveler bridges the height difference and the gap between a dock floor and a trailer bed, so material handling equipment can roll on and off safely. It reduces product damage, equipment wear and the risk of falls at the dock edge.

What are the different types of dock levelers?

The main types are hydraulic, mechanical and air-powered pit levelers, plus edge-of-dock levelers that mount on the dock face. The right one depends on how many trailers you load, how heavy the loads are, and how much trailer heights vary.

What size dock leveler do I need?

Leveler width usually matches the dock door opening, and length depends on how much height difference you need to cover. A longer leveler gives a gentler slope. Capacity should cover your heaviest forklift and load, with a margin for impact. We’ll measure and recommend a size.

How much weight can a dock leveler hold?

Capacity ratings vary by model and are set by the manufacturer. We’ll match the rating to your forklift weight, your heaviest loads and how often the dock is used.

Can you repair a dock leveler you didn’t install?

Yes. We repair dock levelers of all makes and models.

Is your work covered by a warranty?

Yes. Our products and services come with a 1-year warranty, followed by the manufacturers’ warranties.
