Byram is one of the Jackson area’s newer cities, and it has an older history. The community was first incorporated in 1870, gave up its charter during the Depression and incorporated again in 2009. Its symbol is the Byram Swinging Bridge, built in 1905 across the Pearl River and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Partridge Door Company is a fellow Hinds County business that has served this part of Mississippi since 1979, and Byram is about a half-hour drive from our shop in Clinton.
What Byram homeowners call us for
Byram grew a lot as a suburb along I-55 south of Jackson, so many homes have attached two-car garages that have seen years of daily use. These are the calls we get most often from Byram:
“The door won’t open and I heard a bang.” That’s almost always a broken torsion spring. Springs do the heavy lifting, not the opener. When one breaks, the door gets too heavy for the opener. We replace springs the same day most of the time. Please don’t try to force the door up by hand or with the opener.
“The opener runs but nothing happens.” That usually means a stripped drive gear, a disconnected trolley, or a door that’s binding. We stock gear kits for LiftMaster, Sears and Chamberlain openers and carry parts for LiftMaster, Genie and Linear.
“The door goes down, then pops back up.” Check the safety sensors near the floor. They may be blocked, dirty or misaligned. If that doesn’t fix it, call us. We stock replacement sensors.
“It’s so loud.” Worn rollers, dry hinges and loose hardware cause most garage door noise. Replacing rollers often makes an old door noticeably quieter.
“Someone backed into it.” We repair and replace damaged sections, and we’ll tell you if a full replacement makes more sense.
Ready for a new door or opener?
If your Byram home still has its original door, a new Amarr, Clopay, C.H.I. or Wayne Dalton door can improve curb appeal and insulation. If your opener is old, loud or missing modern safety features, we install Genie, LiftMaster and Linear openers. We’ve been an original Genie Authorized Installing and Servicing Dealer since 1979. Estimates on new doors are free.
